I have been meditating on the book of Colossians today as I have been driving down the A9.
This has been my favourite epistle for a number of years now; I love the descriptions of Christ in chapters 1 and 2.
Paul had a number of messages for the church at Colossae.
He wanted to warn them against a false gospel (Colossians 2 v 8 and 18).
He warns against this by teaching about the true gospel; He teaches about grace and truth.
Paul uses grace and gospel interchangeably in Colossians 1 v 5 and 6.
Paul says we must beware of this false gospel and only be aware of grace and truth or the true gospel.
So Paul describes grace and truth in chapter 1 and 2; He describes Jesus.
Jesus is grace and truth; Jesus is the true gospel.
Anything other than Jesus is another gospel; Paul is primarily talking about legalism here.
We must be aware of legalism and not allow this to “spoil” us.
Jesus plus any work is legalism and is not the true gospel.
Jesus plus nothing is truth and grace and is the true gospel.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for Jesus; and thank you for your truth and grace through Him”.
