DIG for Monday the 18th of February…..I am the bread of life…..John 6 v 35

In the first of what is know as the 7 “I am” statements Jesus uses a picture that everyone alive at that time would have clearly understood.

Life was not as easy as it is now, and everyone would have understood the difficulty of finding enough food and water for survival.

Food of course is an essential requirement for life; you need food to survive and live and the people would have understood that.

Jesus is saying that we need food for physical life however we need Him for spiritual life.

He is the only way to have life in the spiritual; He is our bread or food in the spiritual realm.

Without Him we are dead spiritually.

We see Jesus providing physical food a number of times in the Gospels (included at the start of John 5); His life giving properties in the spiritual realm is far more important than that!

In the physical we need more and more food to be satisfied; the people were not satisfied after Jesus fed them in John 5 and wanted much more from Him (John 5 v 14 and 15).

Once we come to Him (or eat of His bread) we are born again in the spirit and will never die (or get hungry) in the spiritual realm again.

We will spend eternity with Him and never hunger in the spiritual realm; we will always be full and blessed and satisfied.

What an awesome picture!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that Jesus is the bread of life”.

John 6 v 35…..And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst
