Sheep do not have a great reputation; I’ve heard it said that they are a rather stupid animal.
Reading this verse however I am glad to be described as a sheep.
I am very glad to be a sheep as my shepherd is Jesus.
A shepherd looks after the sheep, takes care of them and guides them; he provides the sheep with food and pasture, and guides them to water for refreshment.
Jesus does a similar job for each and every one of us, his own sheep.
He guides us and looks out for us; he provides us with refreshment and nourishment.
But it gets even better for us; as the “good” shepherd Jesus even died for his sheep; He died so that we would be free from spiritual death and receive His salvation.
What an awesome shepherd; He even died for his sheep; He died for you!
On the cross Jesus dealt with the issue of sin so that we would not have to, instead we could have His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5 v 21).
I for one am glad to be one of His sheep.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Jesus that you are MY good shepherd”.
