Some of my favourite passages in Scripture come from Colossians chapters 1 and 2; today however I was drawn to read chapters 3 and 4.
Where 1 and 2 give us amazing descriptions of Jesus, chapters 3 and 4 are a bit more instructive in nature talking about how we should live and not live as born again believers.
It is no accident that the chapters are written in this order; first Jesus and then instruction.
A full knowledge of and understanding of Jesus and what He did is the “change force” in our lives, allowing us to live more holy.
Paul first tells the Colossians about the majesty and the finished work of Jesus Christ, and then tells them how they should really be behaving.
We cannot force ourselves to change and live holy lives; it is by renewing our mind through the truth about Jesus that this can occur.
There is no point in telling people to stop sinning and live holy lives unless they truly understand Who Jesus is and what He has done.
All we need to know is in Christ; what He has done and who we are through faith in His finished work.
We display holy lives and less sin in our lives by thoroughly understanding Jesus and all the good things that He has done (Philemon v 6).
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that the way to a more holy life in understanding and knowledge of Jesus and His finished work”.
Colossians 2 v 2 and 3…..That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
