I remember reading 1 Corinthians 15 v 34 first in the car as myself and my wife were travelling to visit some friends. I probably had read it before but this was the first time I had really seen it.
I had to read it again and again and again; and actually read it aloud to Nanette to make sure I was not making it up.
I did want less sin in my life and I also wanted less sin in the lives of the flock I was leading, and here was an answer.
It was not preaching law and telling people to stop.
It was not condemnation.
It was not praying and fasting and tithing asking God to help us stop.
It was realising that we were already righteous and living a holy life through that understanding; this was a light bulb moment for me.
I knew that righteousness was an important concept (I love 2 Corinthians 5 v 21) yet this was showing me that it was of vital importance in living a holy life.
And let me tell you friends that this works; just ask my wife and kids. When you realise that you are already righteous and accepted by God it changes your life.
I know a friend who worried a lot when he was trying to got to sleep; he used to get up and look in the mirror and speak out “you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus”. I would not say that he has stopped worrying altogether however it happens far less now than it used to; this realisation has changed his life.
Understand this truth and it will change yours.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I am righteous, through my trust and faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross”.
1 Corinthians 15 v 34…..Awake to righteousness and sin not; for some have not knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame
