DIG for Friday the 12th of April…..sin and coming short of God is not the issue anymore…..Romans 3 v 22 to 24

I’ve been drawn towards the book of Romans for a couple of days now; you really need a couple of years to go through it though.

So, I’ve been reading and meditating on Romans 3 v 22 to 24 tonight.

If I were a betting man (which I am not) I would put money on the assumption that nearly all of you will have had Romans 3 v 23 preached to you from the pulpit more than once.

I have heard this verse many times, however not in the context of the verses either side of it.

Yes, we all have sinned; we were all born in sin with a sin nature.

However we no longer have a sin nature anymore and we no longer fall short of the glory of God.

In your spirit you are righteous (Romans 3 v 22) and justified (Romans 3 v 24) through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Because of His free gift of grace you have been justified; in the eyes of God it really is as if you had never sinned. God no longer sees or remembers your sin (Hebrews 10 v 17).

He sees you as perfect, holy and pure; created in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4 v 24) and He sees you just like Jesus (1 John 4 v 17).

You are no longer a sinner; yes, you still sin but that is because of your unrenewed mind and not a sin nature. Your sin nature is dead and you are a new creature (2 Corinthians 5 v 17) with a perfect, holy and righteous nature.

You no longer fall short of the glory of God; you are now accepted by God because of your faith in Jesus and in His finished work.

That is an awesome truth that you need to focus on tonight!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that in your eyes I am righteous and justified”.

Romans 3 v 22 to 24…..Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus

DIG for Thursday the 11th of April…..so I’m not a sinner saved by grace then, are you sure?…..Ephesians 2 v 8

The thoughts we think and the words that we speak are very important; death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18 v 21) and as a man thinketh so is he (Proverbs 23 v 7).

So when someone says something that I think is wrong or in error, I will (hopefully politely and tactfully) point this out.

I have countered this old chestnut a number of times – I am a sinner saved by grace.

I had heard it so often that I checked the Bible to see where it was written as I’ve heard it spoken out as if it were Scripture; guess what, it is not in there.

It certainly has an element of truth in that we were sinners (Romans 3 v 23) and that we were saved by grace (Ephesians 2 v 8). Both of these things however are in our past.

We are no longer sinners; if you want to be accurate and Biblical you should say “I was a sinner saved by grace” or “I am now a saint who was saved by grace”.

If you are a born again believer you are a saint, your days of being a sinner are gone.

Remember, as a man thinketh so is he; so if we think and speak out that we are sinners we will have a greater propensity to sin, if we think and speak out that we are saints we are more likely to live a holy and “saintly” life.

You have been saved by grace and you are no longer a sinner, you are a saint.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I have been saved by grace and thank you that I am now a saint”.

Ephesians 2 v 8…..For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God
