After I wrote my DIG yesterday I had two verses come to mind; Ephesians 2 v 8 and Colossians 2 v 6.
Read together these verses should “kill off” legalism in favour of grace in the life of a born again believer.
We came to Christ through His gift of grace given because of our faith in Him and his finished work (Ephesians 2 v 8).
We were saved by grace through faith, and it was a gift; it had nothing to do with our own works (Ephesians 2 v 9).
We continue into our salvation (all the blessings and goodness in the sozo package) in the same way; as we first came to Christ we continue in the same way (Colossians 2 v 6).
The blindingly obvious truth (if you rightly divide the Word) is that once born again we do not need our own works to be blessed and receive from God.
This blessing and abundance is still given as a gift of grace because of our faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Religion and legalism is a lie of the enemy to take the focus of the believer onto himself instead of keeping it upon Jesus.
Jesus and His finished work should be our focus, not how good I have been today or have I prayed and tithed enough this week.
Paul warns us about religion and legalism in many places (Colossians 2 v 8 for religion for example and Galatians for legalism).
Do not let religion and legalism drive you; be driven by grace through faith and keep your eyes fixed upon Jesus and His finished work on the cross.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that my continuing salvation is by grace through faith and in the finished work of Jesus Christ”.
Colossians 2 v 6……As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus The Lord, so walk ye in him
