One of the hardest things I had to learn as a pastor was how to take time off and take time for myself.
But the pastor always has to be doing something, seeing someone, preparing a message, doing the work of the ministry was what I thought.
But then I realised that if I was too tired and too stressed I would be no good for anyone.
Someone told me one day that even Jesus took time for Himself and time to rest, and I had a light bulb moment; maybe I should take time off, maybe I should rest and maybe I should not feel guilty about it.
This is a revelation that every single one of us as a born again believer needs to have.
We sometimes think that we need to be “working for the Kingdom” all the time, when what we really need is some rest and relaxation.
We see Jesus going up into the mountains; this is a picture of solitude.
But He was going to pray people may say, and I agree with that, but He was also going to a place of solitude to be alone and rest; even Jesus who came to save mankind had to get away from other people every now and again.
Remember, as well as being Divine, He was also a man and, like all of us, He needed rest and recuperation.
So be like Jesus, give your self some rest and relaxation every now and again; I do now!
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the example of Jesus, thank you that I am allowed to have some rest”.
Matthew 14 v 23…..And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone
