DIG for Tuesday the 11th of November……the one way to remove false worship and idolatry…..Numbers 25 v 14 and 15

Moses always seemed to be trying to keep the people in line; they had a real propensity to turn away from God at every opportunity.

In Numbers 25 we see them turning to idol worship and ungodly practices with the Moab people (Numbers 25 v 1 to 3).

The Lord knew how dangerous this was and ordered all that had indulged in this idolatry should be destroyed.

We see one named couple, Zimri and Cozbi, being killed by Phinehas because of this idolatrous practice.

This is a picture for us today, as God wants idolatry removed from His church but He will not kill people as He did under the old covenant.

What is so amazing about this account is the meanings of the names of the people involved.

Zimri, the Hebrew involved in idolatry, means praise.

Cozbi, the Moab woman, means lie or false.

So this account is talking about false praise, false worship or idolatry.

Phinehas, the man who killed the two people, comes from the root word meaning mouth or commandment.

Can you see the picture for us living under the new covenant?

Speaking out the Word of God destroys false praise or idolatry; preaching the truth or sound doctrine is what will destroy idolatrous practices in the church today.

God will not kill those who practice idolatry, but His Word will destroy the idolatry.

Idolatry, or false practices, will be removed by the teaching of the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Speak out the truth today and see idolatry flee!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the truth about Jesus and His finished work and thank you that this is freely available to us today in your Holy Scripture”.

Numbers 25 v 14 and 15…..Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri………And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi……
