DIG for Saturday the 6th of December…..Boaz, a picture or type of Jesus…..Ruth 2 v 2

I remember being taught once that Boaz is a picture (or type or shadow) of Jesus; we know that all of the old testament actually points to Jesus.

But as I was reading the start of the second chapter of Ruth this morning this became a revelation of my own as a few things jumped out at me saying, “this is about Jesus”.

“And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem” cries out that He is a picture of Jesus (Ruth 2 v 4).

Now you could say well that’s just a coincidence, but there are no coincidences in the Bible.

Ruth said that she would go and glean in his fields so that she could receive grace in his sight (Ruth 2 v 2); another statement saying this is a picture of Jesus.

Jesus was (as a great friend of mine once said), “grace on legs”.

To put this more Biblically, Jesus was the personification of grace and truth (John 1 v 17).

Boaz protected Ruth, provided for Ruth and blessed Ruth (by leaving out extra corn for her to glean), all things that we know Jesus does for us.

Boaz is a picture (type or shadow) of Jesus, of His goodness, mercy, compassion, bountiful provision and grace.

This is a marvellous picture already just from this one chapter, but just wait until we see him becoming her “kinsman redeemer” further on; does that sound like anyone else you know?

Speak this out today….”Thank you Lord for your Word, and thank you that we can read it to find out more about Jesus”.

Ruth 2 v 2…..And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter
