I am preaching about Joseph at church right now, and in my daily readings have come to the Gospel of John.
As I read Genesis and John I am struck by the similarities between Jesus and Joseph; Joseph of course is a type (picture or shadow) of Jesus.
The most striking similarity I think is summed up by John 1 v 11.
Jesus came to offer salvation to men, He brought a message of hope and He was rejected.
He was hated and despised and people plotted to kill Him.
He came to His own and the majority did not receive Him (John 1 v 11).
The experience of Joseph is strikingly similar.
He came to his family with a message from God and he was rejected (Genesis 37).
His brothers plotted to kill him and he ended up estranged from his family in slavery in Egypt.
Like Jesus, he came to his own and they did not receive him.
However Joseph turned out to be the salvation of his family, in terms of keeping them alive during the famine.
Jesus of course brought us salvation!
Both rejected, yet both willing and able to save; Joseph for his brothers and Jesus for you.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for His grace and salvation that is available through faith in His finished work”.
John 1 v 11……He came unto his own, and his own received him not
