I think that my “favourite” Gospel is the book of John, and my “favourite” account is the encounter Jesus has with the Samaritan woman at the well.
I love the transformation that we see in the woman after meeting and trusting Jesus.
Before meeting Jesus she was a timid woman, ashamed of her circumstances.
A woman who would come out for water in the heat of the day when there would be no other women there (John 4 v 6).
Afterwards we see her in the town openly telling the men about Jesus (John 4 v 28 and 29).
If you can understand the context and society that she lived in you would be staggered at this transformation.
As a Samaritan female fornicator she had no place in society, she was as low as they come.
She should not have spoken to Jesus and Jesus, as a Jewish male, should never have gone anywhere near her.
Yet He did and she was changed; she then has the boldness and assurance to speak openly to the men in the city about Jesus.
She turned into a powerful evangelist!
From hiding away from women through fear of gossip and slander to openly speaking in the town about Jesus; what a wonderful transformation.
That is a transformation that can only come about after meeting with Jesus.
Jesus changed us, Jesus changed you; let’s tell someone about that!
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus, and thank you that this has changed my life”.
John 4 v 39…..And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did
