DIG for Thursday the 29th of January……what faith, all he needed was His Word……John 4 v 50

The beginning part of the Gospel of John has a wealthy of encounters with Jesus that we can learn from.

After his transformation of the Samaritan women we see Him meeting a nobleman who was desperate for His help.

The man’s son was at home near death and the man wanted Jesus to come to his home and heal the boy (John 47).

Jesus made a comment about the man needing to see signs and words in order to believe and then just speaks out that the boy will live (John 4 v 48 and 49).

The wonderful thing is that the nobleman believes what Jesus says and then goes on his way; the Word of Jesus was enough for him.

He did not need Jesus to come, see the boy and lay hands on him; he did not need an experience, His word was enough.

That is a wonderful example of faith.

Too many people in the church today are living as Jesus describes in verse 48; they are looking for signs and wonders and miracles in order to be satisfied.

Now, don’t say that I am against signs and wonders, as I am not!

But as believers we should not need them to see our faith levels increase; we have His Word and that should be enough for us.

His Holy Scripture should be a much better witness to us compared to experiences.

However what I see is a body in love with “feathers and gold dust” and goose bumps, chasing after their next experience, a body not in love with God’s Word.

The church would rather go to a meeting described as experiential, full of manifestations rather than a Bible study.

The Bible (His written Word) is a more sure word of prophecy as Peter described; more sure even than seeing the transfiguration of Jesus (2 Peter 1 v 17 to 21).

I am not saying that signs and wonders, experiences and manifestations are not for us and are not good; but the Word is clear that they should not be the most important way to approach, learn about or have relationship with the Lord.

That privilege should be via His Word.

Church, it is time to stop chasing experiences and settle down with the Word of God.

It is time to believe through His Word, just like the nobleman.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for your written Word, and thank you for the guidance we can have from Holy Spirit in order to receive revelation and understanding”.

John 4 v 50…..Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way
