DIG for Monday the 2nd of February……work, work, work; no just believe…..John 6 v 28 and 29

These couple of verses in John is a profound statement telling us of God’s expectations upon us, yet from my experience the majority of the church seems to have missed it.

God has no expectations on us apart from belief; we are to believe on Jesus Christ.

There are no expectations of works; there is nothing we have to do for God.

Yet time and time again I’ve been told that I should be doing this or that because I was now a Christian.

I had to attend church, I had to give offerings, I had to pray, I had to fast, and the list seemed to go on and on.

Now please do not assume that I am against these things, what I am saying is that we do not have to do them; indeed Jesus is saying that in John 6 v 29.

The “work” that God wants is our belief (or faith and trust) in Jesus as His Son and Saviour, nothing else.

Out of this knowledge will come a love for Him, once we trust and believe and realise what Jesus has done for us.

And out if this love we will want to attend church, want to pray, want to give offering and want to fast.

Do you see the difference in wanting to do something rather then being forced to do it?

Out of trust, faith and love we will do more “good works” than we ever would have done by striving and trying, or being forced to.

We are a blessed people, having already received all spiritual blessings we need as a gift of grace through faith in Jesus (Ephesians 1 v 3).

We are not blessed because of works or good deeds; that is a lie from the devil to keep us bound up in our own works and self-righteousness instead of relying upon Jesus.

Faith and trust, or belief in Jesus is all God wants from us, but we will do what are called “good works” out of this once we realise what He has done for us.

He wants relationship not effort, I think we can give Him that!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus Christ and thank you for all that we have because if His work”.

John 6 v 28 and 29…..Then said they unto him, What work shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent
