DIG for Tuesday the 10th of February…..that’s just not fair, he doesn’t deserve it……Luke 15 v 29

The account of the prodigal son is one of unconditional forgiveness, mercy and love; a “feel good story” that you would think everyone would be happy with.

The son who was lost had come home and was now safe, receiving unconditional blessings from his father.

The elder brother was not happy however.

He complained about his younger brother receiving so much from the father, or rather he was complaining about not receiving so much himself (Luke 15 v 29 and 30).

He was comparing his performance with that of his brother and thought that he deserved more than him; in fact he felt that his younger brother deserved nothing because of his previous actions.

This is a religious mind-set and is a though pattern that results in anger and offence being taken, and it is a way of thinking that still exists today.

Many believers still think that blessings from God are dependent upon their own religious performance; and they transfer that onto other believers also.

“If I do this and do that, stop this and that then God will bless me” is a common yet wrong thought.

They also say “God will bless you if you stop this and stop that, or do this and do that”.

As born again believers we are already blessed with all spiritual blessings because of our faith in what Jesus has done (Ephesians 1 v 3).

We have been made righteous in the eyes of God because of that trust in Him (2 Corinthians 5 v 21 and Ephesians 4 v 24).

Our standing with God and the blessings we receive have nothing to do with what we DO rather with what He has DONE.

We all deserve to be blessed because of what Jesus has DONE, not because of what we DO.

I agree that if it was down to our performance we would not deserve to be blessed, but it is not down to us, it is upon the finished work of Jesus Christ that our blessings and standing with God depends.

That is good news; indeed that is great news.

Like the prodigal son we have been blessed and given the best by our Father.

Grab those blessings today and don’t let a religious “older brother” get in your way.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I am blessed and righteous because of my faith and trust in Jesus Christ and nothing else”.

Luke 15 v 29…..And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgresses I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends
