I often try and imagine and see in my head what I read in the Scriptures; this helps me to understand sometimes.
This evening I was thinking about the times that Jesus said, “follow me”.
I imagined lots of people milling around Jesus wherever He went, in front, behind and by His side.
I’m sure there were many people who followed Him around but were not what we would know as followers.
“Dyoo-the” is the phonetic spelling of the Greek word follow.
It actually doesn’t mean to follow but literally means to come hither.
When Jesus says follow me He is actually saying come to me; this gives the phrase a whole new meaning.
Back when He walked the earth I am sure many followed Him, watching what was going on but then never actually came to Him to become a disciple.
In Matthew 4 v 19 He was saying come hither to me to Simon (Peter) and Andrew.
This was more than getting them to come near in physical terms; He wanted them to come to Him with everything they had.
He wanted them to believe in Him, trust in Him, and then follow Him with all their might.
Jesus is saying the same to everyman today, “follow me”, or rather “come hither”.
He is saying this to the unsaved and the saved; the unsaved for their initial salvation and the saved for their on going salvation (healing, wholeness and prosperity).
He is saying come hither to you right now so will you follow?
Speak this out today….”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus Christ and thank you for my on going salvation He brings”.
Matthew 4 v19…..And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men
