DIG for Wednesday the 8th of April…..Jesus, right from the first verse…..Genesis 1 v 1

I often say that Jesus can be seen in the Old Testament; we do not just start reading about Jesus in the book of Matthew.

Indeed Jesus is mentioned in Genesis 1 v 1.

The Hebrew word for God used in this verse is el-o-hem and of course means God.

It however is a strange word in that it means singular but also plural at the same time, so it could actually be translated as Gods or Divine Ones.

We of course know that this word must be talking about the Trinity, about God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1 v 1 clearly says that God (or Divine Ones) were the agents of creation, God created the heaven and the earth.

There are various verses in the New Testament that define Jesus as being the agent of creation.

Hebrews 1 v 2 talks about the Son of God having made the worlds; this is talking about Jesus.

Colossians 1 v 16 says Jesus (verse 13 makes it clear we are talking about Jesus) created all things in heaven and earth and that all things were created by Him and for Him.

Jesus, the Word or the Logos, was in existence before creation, being God and being with God (John 1 v 1).

So Genesis 1 v 1 is talking about Jesus; Jesus is in the Bible right from the first verse, and He is there right until the end (Revelation 22 v 21).

The whole Bible is about Jesus, our God and King.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Father for the Lord Jesus Christ, our Lord, our God and our King”.

Genesis 1 v 1…..”In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”.
