DIG for Thursday the 9th of April…..you’ve just got to love those buts…..1 Corinthians 2 v 10

We were having some real fun in our Bible study last night looking at verses that could have quite a negative meaning until we read the verse after them; reading what I call the “but verse”.

We were talking about how it is dangerous to take single verse from Scripture and build a doctrine or view around them; we then moved onto the “but verses”.

Take for example 1 Corinthians 2 v 9.

This says that we have not seen or heard the plan that God has for us.

This is not a great verse especially if we are looking for guidance from the Lord.

But the next verse talks about the Lord having already revealed His plan to us through His Spirit.

I have heard people take this first verse out of context and use it on its own, and also giving Isaiah 64 v 4 as an accompanying verse.

This verse was true in an old covenant context, BUT we now live under the new covenant and we have the in dwelling Holy Spirit to guide us and reveal things to us.

We can be sure of the plans that God has for us, to heal us, to accept us, to love us and to prosper us.

These plans are part of the abundant life that Jesus died to bring us and the Holy Spirit reminds us of this plan (John 10 v 10 and 3 John 2).

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus, and thank you that we now live under new covenant grace and can know Your plans for us”.

1 Corinthians 2 v 10…..BUT God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things , yea, the deep things of God
