Preparing for the message this Sunday I spent a lot of time looking through these verses and meditated a lot on them.
Jesus was very clear to his disciples when He said he wanted them to love one another, he states this three times in these two verses.
You may say that this was just for His disciples that he was speaking to at the time.
I would disagree with that.
Open your Bible and take some time to read the following verses –
Romans 12 v 10
Romans 13 v 8
Galatians 5 v 13
1 Thessalonians 3 v 12
1 Thessalonians 4 v 9
1 Peter 1 v 22
1 Peter 3 v 8
1 John 3 v 11
1 John 4 v 7 to 12
I would respectfully suggest that this “new commandment” is also for us today, given the number of post-cross, new covenant verses you have just read.
Love one for another is a witness and testimony to the unbeliever.
If we do not love one another how do we expect those not saved to believe that we care for them?
It is sad and unbiblical to see much of the bickering and backstabbing that goes on in and amongst churches today; this is not a good witness and not a good testimony.
Love is what the world needs from us, and love is what Jesus wants to see from us.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that You love us and because of this love we can love one another”.
John 13 v 34 and 35…..A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another
