Jesus caused the religious establishment of His day a lot of grief, saying many “controversial” statements according to them.
One of the biggest was in what we now call “the Lord’s Prayer”.
My understanding is that this is not meant to be praying verbatim, however it is a great guide as to how to pray.
The way to start your pray was what caused great controversy to the religious establishment; He started the pray by called God his Father.
Jesus was the first person ever to call God Father, but He was not the last!
Every single one of us, as born again believers, can call God Father.
In Ephesians we read that we have been adopted into the family of God, a family where God is Father and we are sons (Ephesians 1 v 5).
Started our prayers with “our Father” is an expression of relationship.
My own Dad has unfortunately passed away, but I always used to meet him with a statement like, “Hi Dad’ or “Hey Day, how’s it going?”
It should be the same with Father God; “Hi Dad” is a way to start your prayer.
We should do this, as our prayer life is part of our relationship with the Father.
I had the privilege of meeting a lovely Jewish man recently, while he was on a trip to this country with his father.
While in a shop I heard him saying, “Abba, Abba” as he tried to get his fathers attention.
It was the first time I had every heard someone saying this in normal speech and it sounded wonderful, reminding me of my relationship with God the Father.
We have the right to say “Abba Father”, we have received the Spirit of adoption and we are in His family (Romans 8 v 25).
Remember this the next time to start to pray.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I have been adopted into your family and I have the right to call you Abba Father”.
Matthew 6 v 9…..After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name
