I opened my Bible this evening looking for inspiration for this DIG and the first verse that came to my attention was Romans 5 v 1.
The word that really attracted me was peace, so I looked the Greek word up in a concordance.
This word means so much more than the lack of strife, the worldly meaning that we would put on the word peace.
It means harmony and concord between individuals, in this case between you and God.
It means security, safety and prosperity, because this harmony and concord keeps things safe and prosperous.
It means the tranquil state of a believer assured of salvation through Jesus Christ.
And if you are a born again believer you have all of this right now.
Peace in this context is a position, your position with God through Christ.
Much of what the world calls peace (or lack of peace) is to do with emotions.
You may be thinking, “but I have no peace Vic”; well, if you are born again you do have peace, you are just not feeling it.
Peace between you and God has been assured through the finished work of Jesus Christ, and the more you understand and believe this truth the more you will feel at peace.
You cannot do anything to create more (or less) peace between you and God, Jesus completed that job perfectly about two thousand years ago.
You can create more peace and feel at peace more through renewing your mind to the truth (Romans 12 v 2).
You can work out that peace (the fruit of the Spirit in your own born again spirit) through mind renewal.
You do not need to ask God for more peace, you need to thank Him for the position of peace that you now find yourself in and ask Him to help you study and meditate upon His Word in order to “work out” the peace you already have within you.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the position of peace that I am in through the finished work of Jesus Christ”.
Romans 5 v 1…..Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
