DIG for Thursday the 2nd of July…..safe and secure in His love….. Romans 8 v 38 and 39

I’ve been meditating on the end of Romans 8 again this morning, and this passage is more than just about the love of God.

Yes, it is great telling us that we can never be separated from the love of God and it is an essential truth that we need to know.

But there is more to it than that; it speaks to me of safety and security.

Knowing that God’s love is unconditional and will never be removed breeds a feeling of safety and security.

We are safe in His love and we are secure in His love.

I can also say that if you do not feel safe and secure in your faith then there is something you are missing about God’s love for you.

If you have any fear or insecurity you need a deeper and truer understanding of the unconditional love that God has for you.

Perfect love (God’s kind of love) casts out all fear (1 John 4 v 18).

If we have any fear we do not know perfect love, and only perfect love comes from God.

Nothing will ever stop God’s perfect love; it will always be there for us.

But we can removed ourselves from this love, removed ourselves from the benefits, by lack of knowledge and lack of understanding.

Meditate upon the scriptures that talk about God’s love (1 John 4 for example) and soak in the truth that HE LOVES YOU.

Speak out these scriptures and let yourself hear that He loves you.

Tell yourself that He loves you and believe it.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that you love me unconditionally and that you will always love me”.

Romans 8 v 38 and 39…..For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord

DIG for Wednesday the 1st of July…..past events and even past sin are no barrier to the love of God…..Romans 8 v 38 and 39

At the end of Romans 8 (from verse 35 to 39) we read a great long list of things that cannot separate us from the love of God.

The list is not exhaustive but what it is really saying is that there is nothing that can separate us from His love, He loves us and that is the end of the matter.

That love was there from the beginning of time and will be there for eternity.

There are a couple of things not in the list however that fascinates me, given the amount of time and man-hours spent exploring this in the church.

I am talking about our past and about sin; things that Paul thinks do not even merit a place in his list.

Sin is not an issue as Jesus has paid for all sin once and for all (1 John 2 v 2 and Hebrews chapters 9 and 10).

Our sin and iniquity no longer concern God, He has chosen to remember them no more (Hebrews 10 v 17).

Yet we are asked (and this has happened to me) to drag up old sins from the past, ask for forgiveness and repent.

Allegedly, doing this will allow God to come back into relationship with me, turning His face toward me again.

This doctrine implies that He has turned away and moved from relationship with me because of my sin; that is simply not true, as I’ve said already Jesus dealt with all my sin on the cross and it is no longer a barrier for relationship with God.

Yes, I agree that there may be some things in the past that we require to renew our mind about and change, but whatever it is it cannot separate us from the love of God; whatever it is it will not result in God “revoking” our relationship with Him.

If anyone tries to tell you that, tell them it is a lie and gently point them towards Hebrews chapters 9 and 10 and Romans chapter 8.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that nothing can separate me from your love”.
