In a recent DIG (and message) I touched on the fact that the past is not in the long list of things that cannot separate us from the love of God.
Paul seemed to think that the past was not relevant in the life of a Christian going forward into victory (Romans 8 v 38 and 39).
The past however can have an impact if we think on it and if we focus on it.
Hebrews 11 talks a lot about Abraham and of his faith.
It also talks about Abraham going forward in his walk with the Lord, and says something of great relevance to us today.
It says that if Abraham had looked back he may have returned to his old country (Hebrews 11 v 15).
This is telling us to keep looking forward and not back in our life, to not look at the old ways that we have come out of.
If we look back for instance at some sin we were locked into in the past (such as alcohol or drug abuse) we could have the opportunity to return.
But if we do not even think about that sin and do not look back, we could never return to it.
We do what we think about (Proverbs 23 v 7), so it is silly to look back and think on the old sin we have left.
We should be looking ahead to the good things of Jesus and to the blessings that He died to provide for us.
Stop looking back, look forward!
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I can look forward and be optimistic about the future because of the finished work of Jesus Christ”.
Hebrews 11 v 15…..And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have returned
