I hope that you are like me and love the poetry that we find in the Book of Psalms.
The language used and the metaphors and descriptions are really just like poetry.
Reading Psalm 113 this morning I was taken by verse 3.
The Psalmist could have said we need to praise the name of the Lord all day long, but he didn’t.
He used a metaphor of the journey of the sun from its rising to its setting; I really don’t know why but that touched me at a deep level.
In the agricultural society that this was originally written to the people would have got up at sunrise ready for a days work, and that work would end when the sun went down.
The Psalmist is saying all day long, while you are awake and working, while you are going about your daily routine, you need to praise the name of the Lord.
OK, we are not a predominantly agricultural society now and we get up and go back to bed at different times, but we should still praise the name of the Lord all day long.
For me Psalm 113 v 3 means while you are conscious you are to praise the name of the Lord; while you are awake you are to give Him praise.
Whatever circumstance you find yourself in, good or bad, you are to praise the Lord.
Praising the Lord is to be a mind-set or attitude that is to be with us all the time.
The Lord is awesome, wonderful and mighty and has done so much for us through the finished work of Jesus Christ.
If the People in the day of the Psalmist could praise Him all day long before the finished work of Jesus how much more should we now praise His name?
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus Christ and thank you Father that we can praise your name all day long”.
Psalm 113 v 3…..From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be praised
