DIG for Sunday the 19th of July…..decently and in order, that is how church is to be run…..1 Corinthians 14 v 40

If you have been around the church for as many years as I have I’m sure you will have seen lots of strange things.

Some are good and some are bad, some of the Spirit and some of the flesh.

At times it can be difficult to discern what is of God and what is of man, however this verse gives us advice to help in this matter.

This part of 1 Corinthians is talking about how to operate in the gifts of the Spirit within church and as such needs to “fit in” with verse 40.

When you see anything in church you must ask yourself, “is this decent and is it in order?” as that will tell you if it is of God or man.

Decent comes from the Greek word “euschemonos” and means respectable and honourable, and can also be translated as properly and honestly.

Order comes from the Greek word “taxin” and means in an orderly array, as in the disposition of an army.

Order is not about control as some think but it is about doing things with a manner of respect.

Much of what goes on in church in the name of the Spirit is not decent and not in order, it is of the flesh.

Just because something looks spiritual and is said to be spiritual does not mean it is of the Spirit, especially some of the more “whacky” stuff. We see and hear today.

Remember to ask yourself about decency and order the next time you are uncertain about a “move of the Spirit” in church and just check if this is of God or of man.

If it is of man have nothing to do with it, but if it is of God get involved.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for your church and thank you for the guidance you have set in place about its operation”.

1 Corinthians 14 v 40…..Let all things be done decently and in order
