At church this morning I was given a verse to speak over a dear friend who was moving on to a new fellowship.
The verse was Galatians 5 v 1, and is a direct warning for Christians against religion.
In religion (man made rules and traditions aimed at reaching out to God) you depend upon our own performance, but true Christianity (God reaching out to man) you depend upon the performance of Jesus.
You may think you have good religious performance but it is no way comparable to that of Jesus; Jesus was perfect, as was required, and you are not!
If you try to rely on your own religious performance you will fail and this will lead to bondage.
Trusting in the performance, or finished work of Jesus, will lead you into freedom; freedom from failure, guilt, condemnation and sorrow, and freedom into liberty, peace and joy.
Religion (not true Christianity) is an evil thing, yes; I did say an evil thing.
I can understand why much of the world wants nothing to do with religion; I am on their side with this.
But true Christianity is the way to freedom in your life, the way to liberty as described by Paul.
Early Christians were persuaded to go back to the “old ways” of religion, and this has been going on ever since.
The legalists (as Paul called them) are still trying this on us today, and they are to be ignored.
Trust in Jesus and His finished work and nothing else!
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus Christ and thank you for the freedom that this brings”.
Galatians 5 v 1…..Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage
