Have you ever heard someone shouting at people on the street, telling him or her to “turn before they burn”, and then saying they are preaching the gospel?
I’m sure we have all seen or heard (and avoided) these people before.
Let me tell you this; doing that is not preaching the gospel.
The true and only gospel we should be preaching is the grace of Jesus Christ.
The true and only gospel is the good news of the finished work of Jesus Christ, that all men have been reconciled and forgiven and therefore have the opportunity to come into salvation.
Paul told the Galatians that they had been removed from the true gospel, the grace and Christ, and that they were now listening to another gospel (Galatians 1 v 6).
A message about hell and damnation, about people being sinners is indeed a message and it actually is true but it is not THE gospel.
It is not THE good news.
It is the goodness of God that leads men to repentance (Romans 2 v 4).
God loves all men unconditionally; He has forgiven all men through the finished work of Jesus Christ and reconciled all men to Himself.
Now all men can choose salvation, choose to be made righteous, choose to move into unlimited relationship with the Lord.
There is a lot preached in church (and shouted on the streets) that is not the gospel.
If it is not about grace, not about Jesus and His unconditional love and mercy then it is not the gospel.
Grace equals the gospel equals Jesus; anything else is not the good news.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ and for His finished work”.
