I have to say that I normally enjoy social media, communicating with people, building networks and having fun.
Sometimes however I get a wee bit annoyed, and as one American preacher would say, the spirit of slap comes over me.
Does it really matter what colour cups you get your coffee in?
Does it really matter if some people want to work or go shopping on a Sunday?
Does it really matter if one believer has a slightly different interpretation of a verse of Scripture from you?
Getting upset and “venting your spleen” on Facebook is not a great witness or testimony for the outside world. What does doing that say about a Christian?
What it does is heighten the stereotypical view of Christians as being judgmental and going out of their way to impose their views on society, and on spoiling all the fun for others.
What part of loving your neighbour includes blasting them on social media?
Jesus gave His believers two commandments, to love God and to love others (Luke 10 v 27).
Love is expressed in many ways, but surely one expression is tolerance, patience and respect for another person’s views (yes, even when you think they are wrong).
How a Christian behaves (face-to-face and online) says more about that Christian than what they say; I’ve heard it said that people would rather see a sermon than hear one.
Our behaviour (face-to-face and online) should highlight the love of Jesus to people; our behaviour should not make us look like bigoted idiots.
We are meant to be salt and light, not judge and jury.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that you love me unconditionally, help me Lord show this love to my neighbour in this needy world”.
Luke 10 v 27…..And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and love thy neighbour as thyself
