DIG for Wednesday the 2nd of December…..son and child, God and man…..Isaiah 9 v 6

Isaiah 9 v 6 is one of the best-known Scriptures foretelling the coming of Jesus, seen on numerous Christmas cards over the season.

I like all the names given to Jesus in this verse (and will write about them soon) however I love the start of this verse where we are given an amazing picture of how Jesus would come as a man yet still be God.

Jesus would have to be born as a child, and live and grow up like every one of us.

He would share in the human experience and go through everything that we have to go through.

This tells us about His humanity.

But at the same time He would be given as a Son, the Son of the Living God.

God would give Him to us, but all the time He would still be His Son and part of the Godhead.

This tells us of His deity.

While on earth He would be man but He would also be God; this is an amazing truth.

God as man would come to earth to live as a human being, to go through trials and temptations, to die and be raised again in order to bring the opportunity for man to be saved.

God is a God of love and proved this by coming to earth to save us in the form of His Son.

Meditate on this truth for a while this morning.

Meditate that God loved you so much that He sent His Son for you!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for Jesus, thank you that He was born as a child yet was given as a Son”.

Isaiah 9 v 6…..For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace
