DIG for Monday the 7th of December…..peace, but not on earth….Isaiah 9 v 6

Now, I’m sure I’ve written about this on a number of occasions, but here it goes again!

One of the things that really annoys me at Christmas is cards with “peace on earth” written on them.

Jesus was described as Prince of Peace in this verse in Isaiah, but He did not come to bring peace on earth.

He did come to bring peace, but it was peace between man and God that He was interested in.

Jesus came so that we might be reconciled to His Father (2 Corinthians 5 v 18 and 19).

When Jesus came peace came as well, but this peace was goodwill toward men from His Father (Luke 2 v 14).

Jesus did not come to bring world peace; if He did He failed big time!

He was the Prince of Peace in terms of bringing peace, or goodwill, from His Father.

Jesus came to bring about reconciliation between man and God and in that mission He was a complete success.

Jesus dealt with all sin for all men once and for all time on the cross; He was the propitiation or payment for the sin of all mankind (1 John 2 v 2).

With sin dealt with there is no issue between man and God and there is now peace.

Speak this out….”Thank you Lord that Jesus was the Prince of Peace, and thank you that he brought reconciliation and peace”.

Isaiah 9 v 6…..For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace

DIG for Sunday the 6th of December…..Jesus Christ, equated to Father God…..Isaiah 9 v 6

Yesterday in DIG I wrote about Jesus tells us that He was God by saying, “I am”.

Today we have this reinforced through another name given to Jesus in Isaiah 9 v 6.

Everlasting means to endure forever, in advance or perpetuity; that means Jesus has always been and He will be forever.

This is talking about eternity in past times as well as in the future.

Father means chief or principle as well as in the paternal sense.

That definition using everlasting and father sounds a lot like God to me.

That is because Jesus is God, and He always has been and He always will be.

Please don’t ask me to explain logically how God can be one and yet three, how God can be Father God and Jesus (and Holy Spirit as well); this is the marvel of the Trinity and there are something things that I cannot explain but believe by faith.

What amazes me about this is that Jesus, who always has been and always will be God, still came to earth as a man (born as a child).

This is a sign of the mercy, compassion and love of God; that one of the Godhead would “lower” Himself to come as flesh and dwell among us.

This is the great truth that we should be celebrating in the run up to Christmas.

God’s love for mankind, God’s love for you, was (and is still) so huge that He would leave the presence of the rest of the Godhead to live and die for you.

Meditate on that truth this morning.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for Jesus Christ, thank you that He came and dwelt among us as a man yet was still God”.

Isaiah 9 v 6…..For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace
