DIG for Sunday the 3rd of January…..no need to ask for forgiveness from God…..Colossians 1 v 14

I had a chat with someone in church yesterday regarding conversations they were having with family around the issue of forgiveness.

Many people think, and indeed are told, that they have to ask God for forgiveness every time they commit a sin.

This is illogical, as I would suggest that we couldn’t remember every sin that we ever commit.

It is also unbiblical.

There are no verses post-cross that tell a born again believer to ask God for forgiveness (read that statement again very carefully and note what I said about post cross and born again).

Post cross verses tell us that we have been forgiven.

Ephesians 1 v 7 talks of our redemption and our forgiveness through the blood of Jesus.

Colossians 1 v 14 says exactly the same thing.

1 John 1 v 9 may seem to be a post cross verse telling us to ask for forgiveness however this verse (just like the rest of the first chapter of 1 John) was not written for the born again believer to follow.

No, forgiveness is a done deal for us; in fact forgiveness is a done deal for the whole of humanity, you need faith in Jesus however to benefit from this forgiveness and reconciliation.

We have been forgiven and need to thank God for this; we don’t need to be asking for it.

God has already forgiven us, to ask is illogical, unbiblical and just plain silly.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that through the blood of Jesus I have already been forgiven for al my sins”.

Colossians 1 v 14…..In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins
