I used this verse on Sunday when taking up an offering, and it is a lovely verse dealing with what we think about resources and money.
It is also a verse that goes right against the “normal” ways of this world.
This talks of people giving away resources yet having increase, while those that hoard and keep back more than is required tends to poverty.
That is just not what we are told in the world.
Save, hoard, keep and look after yourself; that is what we are told by the world.
Yet this attitude will tend towards poverty according to the Word.
It is not the actual act of hoarding and keeping that is the problem, I think it is the mind-set and attitude of the heart that goes along with this that is the issue.
Hoarding and keeping, and a lack of generosity and giving, reveals a poverty minded “spirit” that will inevitably lead to poverty.
An attitude of giving and generosity, a mind-set of sharing, reveals a “spirit” tending to prosperity and abundance and will take us down the road to abundance.
As a man thinketh, so is he, is what the Word says in another section of Proverbs.
Sowing and reaping is another “law” of the Word, and this principle in Proverbs is of course an example of that.
The world says keep your money and it will keep you; the Word says sow your money and you will reap money in return.
That is just so contrary to the world, yet it is a biblical law that I have seen in operation.
Yes, we need money to live, but we also can use our money to sow into the Kingdom.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the principle of sowing and reaping, help me gain a deeper revelation of this principle this morning”.
Proverbs 11 v 24…..There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty
