Paul gives us quite a startling revelation in Galatians chapter 5, where he discusses walking in the Spirit and walking in the flesh.
Many Christians are aware of this concept however they are not aware that this is also talking about grace and law.
Putting yourself under law is the same as walking in the flesh; it just takes a careful reading of Galatians 5 v 18 to see this.
Throughout Galatians Paul is talking about grace and law, and no theologian will dispute this.
In verse 18 he talks about “if ye be led of the Spirit”; this means walking in the Spirit or living under grace.
Now if you are walking in the Spirit you are not walking in the flesh, can you see that?
Paul then says that if you are being led by the Spirit (or walking in the Spirit) you are not under the law.
Therefore we can deduce that walking in the flesh is the same as being under the law.
Many believers would agree that they should not walk in the flesh but at the same time not realise that this is the same thing as being under law.
Trying to perform through religion (doing good deeds to be accepted and blessed for example) is works of the law and is therefore and example of walking in the flesh.
It may be good things you are doing i.e. prayer, feeding the poor, giving money etc. however if you are doing it in a mind set of law they are works of the flesh and will profit you nothing.
Walking in the flesh is to be avoided (just check out the results from this in Galatians 5 v 19 to 21), as is works of law.
