DIG for Monday the 14th of March…..this forgiveness was very deliberate…..Ephesians 1 v 8

It was a pity I skipped a day yesterday in DIG and didn’t carry on with my journey into the start of Ephesians, as Ephesians 1 v 8 is a continuation of verse 7.

We saw in verse 7 that God has forgiven us for all our sin, and He forgave us as a result of the finished work of Jesus.

This verse tells us the manner in which He gave us this forgiveness.

The NIV translates this verse as, “that he lavished upon us with all wisdom and understanding”.

God knew what He was doing, He did not make a mistake having made this decision in His own mind; He then lavished His forgiveness upon us.

Lavished is a great word and gives me a picture of God pouring His forgiveness over us, covering us until we were dripping in forgiveness.

What I love is that God made up His mind and did it (i.e. sacrificing His Son for every single one of us) in the full knowledge that many would throw this infinite act of kindness back in His face.

God wants everyone to be saved so for this to be a possibility He had to reconcile and forgive everyone and He did this through the blood of Jesus; this was His conscious and deliberate decision, and I for one will be eternally grateful.

It was always His plan to sacrifice Jesus, it please Him to bruise (crush and pulverise) His Son for us (Isaiah 53 v 10).

He set in His mind a course of action and this has ended up (at this point of time) in your initial and ongoing salvation; what a Loving God, what a Loving Father.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that right now I can live in the knowledge that you have lavished your forgiveness upon me”.

Ephesians 1 v 8…..Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence
