At our Bible study last night we were discussing my message about righteousness from the previous service.
My wife Nunsy said that one point I spoke on made her think that it was like her wanting to keep the kitchen clean!
To be honest we are not the best at keeping the house tidy, however after a recent change around in the kitchen Nunsy had realised how nice it really looked.
And she wanted to keep it that way.
She said that this was like realising that you are righteous and then not wanting to do the old sinful things that you used to.
The desire to go back to “unclean” and “dirty” things goes once you realise that you are righteous and once you realise how much Jesus paid for you to become righteous.
I have to say that I thought that was a really good picture to describe righteousness and how it causes us to move away from sin.
Once you realise that you are righteous you will stop sinning, that is what the Word says in 1 Corinthians 15 v 24; the grace message (telling you that you have been forgiven and made righteous) is a licence from sin and not a licence to sin.
It is like realising how nice your kitchen is and not wanting it to get dirty and messy!
Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that by sinning you can make your spirit less righteous (or dirty); I am using this picture of the kitchen to show the desire to stay “clean” or stay away from sin.
You cannot make yourself more or less righteous, however your attitude and how you think will affect how righteous or unrighteous you act.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for your Word that says I can sin less if I realise and wake up to the fact that I am righteous”.
1 Corinthians 15 v 34…..Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame
