Thanks to Zan for the main points in this DIG…….
In Romans 5 v 17 we read that righteousness is a gift.
This word ‘gift’ has quite a strong meaning in the Greek; in fact it can mean a number of things.
It can mean a Divine gratuity or something not earned.
It can mean a spiritual endowment or investment; I really like this meaning!
Investment can mean an outer covering of any kind, and makes one think of Isaiah 61 v 10.
In this verse we read that God will clothes us, or cover us, or invest in us a robe of righteousness; a robe that gives us a position, rank or right.
The word ‘gift’ also means a miraculous faculty, where a person of law or superiority is authorised to licence something to a person.
Our righteousness was given by God, was gifted by God; He has the right and position from which to ‘licence’ us to be righteous.
All these meanings point to the fact that we cannot do anything to make ourselves righteous; our righteousness is s gift from God.
He made us righteous; He chose to make us righteous as a gift of grace through faith.
The gift of righteousness is a Divine happening that occurs when we are born again.
That is something to thank God for today!
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I have been made righteous as a gift of grace through faith”.
Romans 5 v 17…..For by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ
