DIG for Friday the 13th of May…..I shall not want…..Psalm 23 v 1

I have been pondering over Psalm 23 for a wee while now, and have been offered a book about this that I am very excited to read.

It is a Psalm of encouragement, one to edify and exhort the believer.

There is so much in this Psalm to consider and meditate upon but I’ve just been thinking about 4 words tonight; I shall not want.

The Hebrew word for want in this verse is the only use of that word in the whole Bible, and is the word ‘khaw-sare’.

It means to lack, be in need, be lacking, deprived or empty.

The Word says that we will not be like this as the Lord is our shepherd.

This is very true, as our Lord is a Lord of provision and abundance.

We only need to look at Jesus in accounts like the feeding of the five thousand and the turning of water into wine at Cana, to see He is the Lord of bountiful provision.

At the cross He provided all we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1 v 3) and for an abundant life (John 10 v 10).

In our life we should see no need, we should have no lack and we should not be deprived; this is what the Lord wants for us as born again believers.

This was promised in Psalm 23, was shown in allegory form in the Gospels and confirmed by New Covenant Scripture.

The Lord wants us to live and abundant life and He died to provided this for us.

His bountiful provision for us, our abundant life, is a fulfilment of the prophetic word in Palm 23 v 1; I shall not want!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that you are a God of bountiful provision and thank you for this provision through the finished work of Jesus Christ”.
