DIG for Wednesday the 1st of June…..explanation and demonstration, that is what is required…..1 Timothy 4 v 16

While typing out the verse in DIG yesterday I noticed a very important point that I’d not absorbed earlier.

I said our doctrine can save others and ourselves, well Paul said it first!

What it actually says is that others who “hear thee” will be saved.

This is a very important part of the verse; we have to speak out to people what we understand and believe.

How else will they hear us if we do not tell them?

This word hear however is so much more than just listening and hearing sound, it means to comprehend and understand.

What this verse is really saying is that we need to teach others in order to save them!

We need to not only speak out the truth, we need to explain it, and I would suggest that we should live it too, in order to give the message some degree of credibility.

People understand a truth better if they see it as well as hear it.

If we do this with the good news about Jesus, about his finished work and what we can have through it, people who hear (understand and comprehend) will be saved; that is what this verse is saying.

We can make a huge impact on the lives of others by explaining and demonstrating the true doctrine of Jesus Christ.

We as born again believers have a responsibility to speak out and show good doctrine, so ensure that you are rightly dividing the Word and listening to good teachers!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for your Word and thank you for good doctrine”.

DIG for Tuesday the 31st of May…..doctrine will save you and others…..1 Timothy 4 v 16

I’ve often heard people say, “I don’t want any doctrine” as if it is a dirty word or bad concept.

Doctrine is simply what we are taught by a teacher, it is what we understand and believe about Scripture.

In that sense every single person has a doctrine that they believe.

The Word tells us that we are what we think (Proverbs 23 v 7), so the doctrine that we adhere to has a great effect on our lives.

Paul told Timothy to take heed of the doctrine, which is the apostle’s doctrine that Paul taught.

The doctrine Paul taught was the doctrine for Timothy and it is the doctrine for us, and if we follow these teachings we can save ourselves and others (1 Timothy 4 v 16).

There is a reverse side to this verse of course; if we adhere to wrong doctrine and wrong teaching we can harm others and ourselves.

Paul was of course writing to a believer so this verse is for those already saved, so here Paul is talking about on-going salvation in terms of joy and peace, healing and wholeness and prosperity.

Correct doctrine will move you into healing and wholeness, peace and prosperity.

Wrong doctrine will see you sick and poor!

So doctrine (what we understand and believe about the Word as we are taught by a teacher) is important, it is very important.

Our doctrine will impact on the quality of life for us and for others.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for your Word and Holy Spirit, enabling us to have good doctrine”.
