DIG for Saturday the 4th of June…..don’t feel guilty about taking some time out…..Matthew 8 v 24

Every one of us gets tired and needs to rest, needs to take a break.

This may seem like an obvious statement to you but I think it is not to some in the church, especially ministers and those in leadership and also to some church members with regards to their leaders!

In my previous role in secular business I use to get seven working weeks holidays (yes, seven); I would never consider taking that now that I am in a combined role of ministry and self-employment.

However as I said at the start of this DIG, everyone, including ministers need to rest and take a break sometime.

Even Jesus did this.

We see on a number of occasions Jesus “heading off to the hills”; see John 6 v 15 and Matthew 15 v 29 for example.

We see Jesus in the boat with His disciples and the boat is getting into trouble (Matthew 8 v 24) yet Jesus continues to sleep.

I used to think there may be some deep theological point in this verse; now I just think that Jesus was very, very tired and needed to sleep.

I can honestly say that I am like Jesus in one way, I also love “heading off to the hills”, and intend to do so shortly.

A minister, leader, indeed any believer is no good to anyone if they are too tired and exhausted to function correctly.

Rest and relaxation is a requirement for every one of us, I encourage you to take some if you need it!

Jesus needed rest, so do you!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you for the example of Jesus with regards to taking time out and resting”.

Matthew 8 v 24…..And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep
