I’ve been writing about law and grace the last couple of days; warning of the danger if mixing law and grace for example.
Today I want to warn you about another danger for the church, and something quite similar actually.
Some of what we do in the church today is law, but at the same time it is also what Paul warned us about in Colossians 2 v 8.
This is what Paul says is after the tradition of men.
Under the law men had to tithe, this is now a tradition of men and not a requirement under grace.
Under law men had to perform good deeds in order to be blessed, this is now a tradition of men and not a requirement under grace.
Under law men had to think of their sin and perform sacrifices to get it covered, this is now a tradition of men and not a requirement under grace.
Much of what men say we should do and has become a tradition (i.e. something we do as a routine without thinking) is actually law and no longer required under grace.
Traditions of men are of the world and not of Christ.
Grace is of Christ, indeed grace and truth came to this world through Christ (John 1 v 17).
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus and thank you that through this I live under grace”.
Colossians 2 v 8…..Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ
