DIG for Monday the 4th of July…..it all depends on how you think…..Proverbs 23 v 7

Today I’ve been sitting in my car near the coast, spending time in thought, prayer and meditation.

The weather was really nice when I got here, quite warm and a bit sunny.

After a couple of hours though it started to rain, and as the other people in the car-park were running back to their cars I thought, “Look how beautiful that rain is”.

This was rather a strange thought as we normally see rain as quite a negative thing, ruining our fun outdoors and making us head inside or get our jackets on.

But it really all depends on how you look at a thing, what your mind-set is, as to whether it is good or bad, ugly or beautiful.

Rain is required to water the plants and crops, essential for our food production.

Rain can “freshen up” things, washing away dust and debris, and cleaning an area.

Rain means you don’t have to water the patio plants!

In this sense rain is a wonderful and beautiful thing.

We all get hit with different things through our lives, some of them seeming really bad and really ugly at the time.

However if we look at them in a different way and think in a different manner, maybe as a chance to learn or grow, they could be seen quite different.

We have all been in places where there has been an ugly view, yet if we turn round and look in a different direction the view has been stunning.

The place of course stayed the same, we just got a different perspective depending where we looked.

It is the same with how we look at things and how we think; we can be positive or negative and that will change the outlook of a situation.

Speak this out today…..”Thank You Lord that I can choose how to think; thank you that I can be positive and look at the good in things”

Proverbs 23 v 7…..For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he……

DIG for Sunday the 3rd of July…..make what you learn from the Word your own revelation…..2 Timothy 2 v 15

There are a great many good teachers and preachers available for us to learn from today.

There are a great many daily devotionals (other than this one) that we can read and digest.

There are a great many books we can read directing us to many truths in God’s Word.

However it is very important for a believer to study the Word for himself, as well as learning from others.

I would also suggest that every time you read a devotional or book, or listen to a preacher, you do it with your Bible open.

As you are being taught and learning you should be looking everything up for yourself in the Word.

You really need to read the Scripture references for yourselves and not just take the word of the author or teacher.

If you just read the chapter and verse and don’t look it up for yourself it will remain the revelation of the teacher.

If you look into it, read the actual verses, ponder over them and meditate upon them the revelation will become our own.

You will be able to say, “I know that John 10 v 10 says I can have an abundant life”, rather than, “Vic says I can live in abundance”.

You will be able to say, “I know from my studies that God’s Word in 2 Corinthians 5 v 21 says that I have been made righteous”, rather than, “Vic said I have been made righteous”.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for teachers and preachers, but thank you Lord for your Word and the help of the Holy Spirit so that I can study and rightly divide the Word for myself”.

2 Timothy 2 v 25…..Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth
