DIG for Saturday the 15th of October…..the real treasure was inside….. 1 Peter 1 v 25

In Lichfield Cathedral this morning I saw what is thought to be the second oldest book in existence in the UK, a hand written copy of the gospels of Matthew and Mark and the first three chapters of Luke.

This surprisingly had a real emotional effect on me, and I had to fight hard to stop my tears!

It just looked wonderful, even though I could not understand what it said (it was written in Latin).

We were told that the other half of the book (the rest of Luke and the gospel of John) was lost, probably during a Viking raid.

It is thought that the book cover, which was covered in jewels and therefore worth a lot of money, was ripped off and the book thrown away; and at this point the other half was lost.

The Vikings only took what was of value to them i.e. the jewels, but I knew they had left the real treasure behind.

They had thrown away the key to life and life in abundance, and had kept the ‘valuable’ stuff that would eventually be used up.

They had thrown away what would endure for ever, they kept what would quickly be gone.

The Word of God is everlasting and is far more valuable than jewels, gold, silver and money.

Money will not see you set free into a life of abundance, you may think it will but it cannot.

Only the Word of God can do that!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for your Word and thank you that it is the agent for change in my life”.

1 Peter 1 v 25…..But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you
