It is not often I quote another minister or pastor in my DIGs however I thought a statement I read today was worthy of discussion.
Andrew Farley wrote, “God’s greatest gift is not baby Jesus living in Bethlehem. It is Jesus living in you today. Nevertheless, Jesus’ humanity was indispensable to our eternity with Him”.
I found this very interesting, given that quite a lot of what we read around this time of year is about the gift of Jesus from God.
God gave us his Son (Isaiah 9 v 6).
God’s plan of redemption for man was Jesus coming to this earth in flesh and dealing with our sin on the cross.
Because of His finished work we can, as a gift of grace through faith, be born again, saved and made righteous.
Because of His finished work we can, as a gift of grace, have the indwelling Almighty God living on the inside of us.
We now live under grace and the new covenant and not under law and the old covenant.
Part of grace and the new covenant is that we can have God in us, and this is a wonderful gift.
Jesus had to die and be raised again for the new covenant to be ushered in, so of course He had first to be born as a man.
I think I see where Andrew is coming from here, in that through the birth, life, death and resurrection ever man has the opportunity to be saved; that is a great gift.
However the actual gift of salvation and being made righteous could be argued as being the greatest gift.
What do you think?
Speak this out today…..”Thank you for the finished work of Jesus and thank you that every man has the opportunity from salvation and righteousness”.
Isaiah 9 v 6…..For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given…..
