When I was in India I saw a poster of a scripture verse on the wall of an orphanage and was deeply impacted by it.
Yet, when I looked it up in my own Bible it was very different.
The verse was Hebrews 13 v 16 and on the wall it said, “share with others” while in my Bible it said, “communicate”.
Now if you have read DIG before you will know I recommend you delve into verses by looking up the Greek meaning of words; this is a perfect such case.
To communicate in English means to talk and pass on information, however in the Greek word in this verse it means to share your resources or to partner with someone by sharing your material possessions.
These two meanings are very different, showing us how we need to be prepared to study our Bibles in depth.
I love my King James Bible but sometimes the true meanings are obscured by old style language.
This verse is more powerful in others versions.
I found one that says, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased”.
Now that I can understand!
This verse is very clear in that our resources are not all for ourselves; we need resources in order to share with others.
This is not what the world tells you, but it is what the Word of God recommends.
This world is all about self; the Word recommends that we think about others.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you for your Word Lord and thank you for the life giving truths we can read within”.
