I’ve just been listening to some teaching that I will use at the Bible school we are launching next week.
The lecturer was describing that the Bible is a book of unfolding revelation; that not all truth was given at the one time.
The ultimate revelation came eventually through Jesus Christ.
The phrase “but now” is used many times in Scripture, showing us that there was also a “then”.
Things have changed, from law to grace, from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant for example.
For example prior to Jesus men were slaves to sin, and could not do anything to free themselves from sin.
When Jesus came He dealt with all our sin on the cross (Hebrews 10 v 12 and 14).
This is why Paul was able write Romans 6 v 22.
He said, “But now being made free from sin”.
Back “then” people under the Old Covenant were slaves to sin, “but now” we are free from sin because of Jesus; we live under grace, under the New Covenant.
Many people pull verse out of the Word and say this is for us as it is in the Bible.
Not everything written in the Word is for us today, not for us to literally live by.
Some of the Word was for “then”, we live in the “now”.
“Then” was an inferior revelation, but “now”, because of Jesus is a superior revelation.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I live under grace and under the New Covenant, thank you that I live NOW”.
