DIG for Sunday the 26th of February…..lots of great advice in Proverbs…..Proverbs 21 v 23

Every now and again I have a “trawl” through Proverbs looking at the wonderful and practical advice in there.

Take Proverbs 21 v 23 for example.

This is a verse of great advice with regards to what we say and when we say it.

How often have you said something and regretted it straight away?

Once you say something it is “out there” and cannot be taken back.

Many times I’ve wished I could go back in time and keep my mouth shut instead of speaking out a comment!

This verse says if we keep our mouth and tongue (that says to me keep quiet) we can keep ourselves away from trouble.

How true!

Sometimes it is better for us to keep quiet rather than speak.

My Mum used to say, “If you’ve got nothing good to say just say nothing”.

So this is simple advice, maybe it is a good idea to keep quiet sometimes to keep yourself away from trouble.

So, the next time you can feel yourself ready to jump I with a funny or witty or maybe just nasty comment, think about this verse and think about what you are doing.

You could just be saving yourself from a whole heap of trouble

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the wonderful advice that we can read in the Book of Proverbs”.

DIG for Saturday the 25th of February…..why would you want to live under law…..Galatians 5 v 1

Paul’s letter to the Galatians is one full of warnings, full of Paul being amazed at their behaviour.

I have to admit I think I must feel a bit like Paul when I preach grace and yet Christians reject it and want to live under the law.

That may sound a bit harsh to you but that is what people are doing when they reject the message of grace.

Paul called the Galatians foolish, wondering why they would not obey the truth he preached in Christ (Galatians 3 v 1).

Paul was amazed and astounded at how they had removed themselves from the truth he preached about grace (Galatians 1 v 6).

Paul warned them against going from grace back into the slavery that was law (Galatians 5 v 1).

I see the same around me today!

We live past the time when law was the way to live; this ended when Jesus said, “It is finished”.

We are not under law but under grace (Romans 6 v 14 and 15).

As Paul did, I encourage you to embrace the truth, embrace the grace message and live as if you know that you are under the New Covenant.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I live under the New Convened, that I live under grace”.

Galatians 5 v 1…..Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage

DIG for Friday the 24th of February…..in Christ we are all the same…..Galatians 3 v 28

One of the things that I truly love about the Christian faith is that all born again believers are the same in the eyes of God.

We may not be the same in the eyes of some believers and by some denominations, but in the eyes of God we are all the same.

In writing to the Galatian church Paul speaks of the three things that made people different in the context of when the letter was written.

He said there was neither Jew nor Greek; so no difference according to race.

He said there was neither bond nor free; so no difference according to class.

He said there was neither male nor female; so no difference according to sex.

I would suggest that these three groups are where we see differences in church (and society) today so we can learn a lot from this verse written almost two thousand years ago.

In the eyes of God believers were the same in the times of Paul and today there is no difference.

We are all the same no matter where we were born, who our parents were and what sex we are.

And as a result we (the church, the body of believers) should treat everyone the same!

I wonder if we do treat everyone the same, or do we still have biases and prejudices (like the rest of society).

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that in your eyes we are all the same irrespective of gender, nationality and level in society”.

Galatians 3 28…..There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus
