DIG for Friday the 7th of April…..we no longer need the shadows any more…..Colossians 2 v 16 and 17

As I’ve said in the last couple of DIGs there are lots of types and shadows about Jesus in the Word.

Another of these is the Sabbath.

Paul himself tells us that the Sabbath is indeed a shadow of Jesus (Colossians 2 v 16 and 17).

He also says that now that Jesus has come we no longer need to partake in the shadows.

So we no longer have to adhere to what the law calls the Sabbath.

But the keeping of the Sabbath is in the Ten Commandments Vic, don’t we still have to keep them.

No we do not!

These commandments are under the law but we no longer live under the law but under grace (Romans 6 v 14 and 15).

We are no longer under the Ten Commandments as the “real deal” is now here and we are under grace.

So can I kill and steal and do all those other things banned by the Ten Commandments?

The answer is no and if you understand grace you will not want to!

That is the key; the law reinforces sin but grace frees you from sin.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I now live under grace and not under the law”.

Colossians 2 v 16 and 17…..Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ

DIG for Thursday the 6th of April…..Noah’s Ark is all about Jesus…..John 14 v 6

Pictures (or types and shadows) about Jesus can be found throughout the whole of the Bible.

We looked at one yesterday in DIG where we saw that Joshua leading the people into the Promised Land was a picture about Jesus.

Once you understand about pictures, types and shadows it opens up the Bible in a whole new and exciting way.

Take for example the account about Noah’s Ark.

We know that the Ark was built so that Noah and his family could survive the flood.

The only way to be saved from drowning was to be in the Ark.

If you were outside of the Ark there was no way to be saved, only certain death.

Outside of the Ark and a man was certain to be lost.

The only way to safety and security was to be in the Ark

This is clearly a picture about the saving work of Jesus Christ.

Jesus said He was the only way to the Father, the only way to salvation (John 14 v 6).

Today if you are “in Christ” i.e. saved, you are assured of safety and security.

If you are not “in Christ” I am afraid that you are lost.

The account of Noah’s Ark when used as a picture of Jesus helps explain His finished work, His work of saving grace.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus Christ and thank you for His saving grace”.

John 14 v 6…..Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me

DIG for Wednesday the 5th of April…..grace and law, Jesus and Moses…..Joshua 1 v 2

Although Moses was a great patriarch and a man of God he never actually led the people into the Promised Land.

That privilege was left to Joshua (Joshua 1 v 2).

Moses took them close and showed them the land, but only Joshua could lead them there.

Moses and Joshua are actually pictures (or types and shadows) of law and grace, and Joshua is also a picture of Jesus.

Moses gave the law but grace (and truth) came in Jesus (John 1 v 17).

So what does the Promised Land signify if Moses is law and Jesus (Joshua) is grace?

Well, it is a picture of salvation.

The people would be safe and secure once they entered the Promised Land; in a similar we are safe and secure once saved.

So this picture tells us that the law can never save a man, grace is the only vehicle for salvation.

The grace of Jesus Christ has provided the route into salvation, and just as the people had to choose to go over the Jordan and into the Promised Land, we choose or have faith to enter into salvation.

We are saved by grace though faith and not through works or law (Ephesian2 v 8).

People today need grace not law; it is the route into salvation and then the route for our continued salvation (Colossians 2 v 6).

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that Jesus is the route unto salvation”.

Joshua 1 v 2…..Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel
