DIG for Saturday the 22nd of April…..are you aware of what you are singing…..Proverbs 18 v 21

I was out driving in the car this morning enjoying some worship music.

I’d been singing along but then suddenly realised the lines that were about to come and stopped.

You see, I will not “sing out” wrong doctrine in the way that I try not to speak it out.

I have realised that death and life are in the power of the tongue and the words that we speak are always important, even if we are singing them (Proverbs 18 v 21).

The words about to come were these – “Open the heavens and pour out Your Spirit”.

This is a silly thing to sing or say, as God has already poured out His Spirit, and He has never gone back.

To ask God to open the heavens and pour out His Spirit shows an alarming misunderstanding of His Word.

It is really a statement of unbelief, thinking that God is holding back His Spirit from us until a certain time and place.

So I will not say this and I will not sing it either!

I once had a chat with a young worship leader about a song he knew I did not like to sing.

“But it has such a lovely tune”, he said.

In my opinion the tune has nothing to do with how good a worship song is, the important thing is what is coming out of your mouth as you worship.

If it has wrong doctrine then do not sing it is my advice.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for your Word and thank you that we can use this to gauge if what we are speaking out will produce life or death”.

Proverbs 18 v 21…..Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof
