The more I ‘work’ as a pastor the more I realise about the importance of identity for the believer.
The Word is clear about who we are in Christ and what we have in Christ, however until a believer knows this, understands this and truly believes this they will not live the life of abundance that Jesus came to bring.
Yes, we may still have some sin in our lives and we may still come short however we are not sinners, we are saints.
Yes, we may commit some unrighteous acts and deeds however we are in fact completely righteous.
Yes, we think some unholy thoughts but our true identify is rooted and established in true holiness.
Now I am not making an excuse for sin and I am not minimising sin, I am maximising the finished work of Jesus and maximising our true identity.
The things you do or do not do are not your true identity, your true identity is what you were made the second you were born again.
Your true identity is who you are in Christ.
As I wrote yesterday, at your salvation your spirit was created new in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4 v 24).
That is your true identity.
At salvation you were adopted into God’s family as a son; that is your true identity.
So look to your true identity this fine morning and not at what you are or are not doing!
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I am righteous and holy, and thank you that I am a son of the Living God”.
2 Corinthians 5 v 17…..Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new
