There are many dangers in this world but the biggest ones for the born again believer (in my opinion) are religion and tradition.
When the devil comes at us full on we can all recognise this, however when he sidles up beside us in the disguise of religion and tradition many embrace him.
How many of you for example have felt condemned at times for not praying enough.
You maybe prayed for half an hour, but heard that voice, “you should be praying for an hour”.
Even though praying for an hour is a good thing, when it turns into duty or a religious performance it is damaging.
Paul warned the early church (the early born again believers) about this threat.
In Colossians 2 v 8 he warned them about many things including traditions of men (which I believe is religion).
If this was a threat back then how much more dangerous is this now, now that the enemy has had almost two thousand years to pollute the church with religion and traditions?
Examining yourself for sin during communion is a lie of religion and a tradition of man.
Begging God for forgiveness is a lie of religion and a tradition of man.
Believing that God uses illness and pain to teach people and make them more humble is a lie if religion and a tradition of man.
Can you see how dangerous these lies can be to the born again believer?
They can make us passive and accepting of the lies of the enemy and they can kill!
The answer is to know, understand and believe God’s Word, especially in the area of the true nature of God.
